Our story
Compline & Morrow makes bedtime stories for grown-ups — short, illustrated, made to be read the way you were read to when you were small. They’re for the tired adult at the end of the day, the one still holding everything. What they compete with isn’t other books. It’s the phone you reach for instead.
Compline is the last of the day’s prayers — the one that completes the night, said just before sleep. Morrow is the morning that follows. Every book lives in that hour between the two: the day finished, tomorrow not yet begun. Tonight is Compline. The morrow can wait.
Every book here ends the day instead of carrying it forward — short enough to read in one sitting and set down. Nothing to fix, nothing to become, nothing to keep up with. Just a quieter thing to reach for than the phone, and someone telling you the day is allowed to be over.
Monique R. Roumo writes for the quiet at the end of the day — the moment, often the loneliest one, when everything goes still and you find yourself wondering whether anyone really sees you.
She’s spent years listening for it: in the things people say out loud when they think no one’s keeping track, in the heart-stories strangers offer up on a screen just to feel lighter for having said them. Different lives, the same question underneath.
She writes to answer it plainly — I see you — and to say it in the hour it’s least often said. Compline & Morrow makes bedtime stories for grown-ups, from beside the reader, never above them.
Goodnight.
